WE ARE NOW OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER!

Dear Parishioners,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that our Church doors will be opening at 9am today!

A few things to note:
  1. There are no toilets available, they must be kept locked at all times, so please go before you leave the house.
  2.  You may light candles on the candle stands available. Please bring loose change. Please light candles from a candle already lit. DO NOT use any hand gel before lighting a candle.
  3. There is a one way system in place. This is available on the walls of the Church and there are big arrows to guide you around.
  4. You DO NOT have to wear a mask and gloves inside the Church, this is at your discretion. Our volunteers also do not have to wear them, but we have provided them for the volunteers should they wish to use them.
  5. Only 6 people/families may enter the church at any one time. Each family on one of the 5 pews and one family at the kneeling rail.
  6. By family we mean ONLY people from your household.
  7. Do not leave anything in the Church.
  8. Please follow the two meter distancing rule at all times.
Please find the opening hours below.

Mondays: 9am - 11:30am
Tuesdays: 9am - 10am & 2pm - 3pm
Wednesdays: 9am - 11am & 2pm - 3pm
Thursdays: currently closed

We look forward to welcoming you back!

Dear friends,

Some of you know, and some of you may not know, on Facebook and our website we have been appealing to volunteers so that we can reopen our Church for business.

This is no ordinary task given the present circumstances and we are legally bound to have 2 volunteers present in the church all the time while it is open for private prayer.

Our beautiful Church has been closed up to you since 23rd March, and so many of you have spoken of your yearning to pray in the Church and of course, to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion. Coming to Mass is a fair way off, but opening the church can begin this Monday.

HOWEVER, your response so far has really disappointed me. I know that there are restrictions on who can volunteer (over70’s, nobody who is classed as vulnerable or shielding, or living with anyone who is vulnerable or shielding) but surely to goodness, there are plenty of young, strong people from the age of 18-69 in this Parish who feel passionately, so I was led to believe, about the reopening of our Church.

So far, the pitiful response will allow us to open the church on Tuesdays between 2pm and 3pm, Fridays between 2pm and 4pm, and Sunday mornings between 9am and 10am.

Surely this is not good enough.

If only 6 people / families can enter the Church at any one time, only having an hour here and there is not enough for you all to come. It would be awful to have to turn you away because we have run out of time.

Our Cardinal has asked to see the opening times of each Church, and I must admit, I feel ashamed at sending him our times.
I hope that when you need to see me, I make myself available to you. Whether that be through the Sacramental life of the Church, i.e. Baptisms, Confirmations, First Communions, Spiritual Direction, school forms, attending appeals at schools, and administrating to the sick and elderly members of your families.

I am there at the best moments in your life, I hope, and for some, the worst. I appeal to you as your Parish Priest, to make the effort, so that our beautiful Church can open its doors on Monday morning, and apart from when Mass is on each day, close in the evening, giving workers time to call in to their Church.

If you fall into the category of people who can help, please please please don’t let your fellow parishioners and me down, volunteer!
YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOU.

Fr Sean Thornton.

Update: The Church is reopening for private prayer! 7th June 2020

Click here to read a statement by Cardinal Vincent Nichols

Yes - it's true. From Monday 15th June the government says that we can open our church again for private prayer. God bless you all for your prayers to make this come true.
Fr Sean and Chelsea will be doing everything within their power to get things ready so that we can open our beautiful doors, but the law requires, at present, for us to have ushers.

Can you offer an hour or so a week so we can open the church?

Can you offer an hour or so a week to clean the church?

Without YOUR help in these areas we will not be able to open the church. The more people that volunteer, the longer the church will be open for on a daily/weekly basis.

Please email the Parish Office at churchofthetransfiguration@hotmail.com if you are available for an hour or more a week, stating what times these are, so we can try and work a rota around your available hours.

Thank you in advance and God bless you for your usual generosity of heart.

Fr Sean & Chelsea

Update to Maintaining the Parish  13th May 2020

Thank you for visiting this page. With no Sunday Mass collections, your giving matters now more than ever.

There are various ways to contribute to the parish.
If you do online banking, the quickest and most direct way to donate is with a bank transfer. If you can, please also consider a monthly gift by Standing Order. Our account details are:

Account Name:            Westminster Roman Catholic Diocese Trustee
Church of The Transfiguration Kensal Rise
This is the parish account’s full name in the banking system. You only need quote the first line.
Sort Code:                    40-05-20
Account Number:        41094882
Please add your Surname and First Name as a reference, to help our bookkeeper.

If you are a taxpayer, please Gift Aid your donation. The government will top up your gift by 25 percent, meaning a £20 offering becomes £25, at no cost to you.

The quickest and easiest way to do Gift Aid now is to send an email to giftaid@rcdow.org.uk with the following information:
– Your parish name
– Your title, first name and surname
– Your address and postcode
– The date of your gift, or start date of Standing Order
– The amount
– Please add the line: ‘Please Gift Aid my donations’

Maintaining The Parish  8th May 2020

Dear parishioners,

Many people have contacted us recently to ask for the Parish's bank details to allow them to set up a standing order. For this we are very grateful.

Under the current government restrictions, there is no way for us to get the planned giving envelopes distributed to those of you who use this method to contribute. There is also no weekly collection as Masses are being live streamed, sadly without any of you physically present.
The loss of a regular income has taken it's toll on the Parish finances and of course this does not only include the Sunday collection, but also candle money, papers, Lenten Alms, clergy stole fees, Baptisms etc, and your Easter offering to the priest.

If you are not in a position to help due to a change in your financial situation, please ignore this email.

If you would like to switch over from the planned giving system to standing order, I have detailed the bank details below that you will need to do this, for your convenience.

Bank : HSBC
Account Name : Westminster Roman Catholic Diocese Trustee Kensal Rise
Sort Code : 40-05-20
Account Number : 41094882

I do hope you are all keeping safe and well, and I look forward to a time when we can all meet again.

Come Together   8th May 2020

Dear parishioners,

You are probably all familiar with how technology is keeping people in touch with loved ones, and how this has become our "normal" way of life. It brings people together, and helps us to feel connected with those we haven't been able to see during this very difficult time.

As it is a bank holiday, and hopefully the home-schooling and work, for many, is off of the agenda for the next few days, I was hoping we could focus on reaching out to fellow Parishioners. I want us all to come together to send messages of encouragement, hope, and entertainment to our fellow parishioners.

If you would like to take part, please send me an email or a message on Facebook, attaching a video of yourself or your family, either speaking, singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, even cleaning! (I know the latter is what I am spending a lot of my time doing!)

I can then compile these videos together, and I can upload it to the website and our Facebook page for us all to enjoy!

I really do hope that you will all participate, I know it would put a smile on everyone's faces, to be able to see each other for the first time in such a long time, albeit, in the form of a video.

If you need any inspiration, or a motivational confidence boost, please contact me. I am hoping this will be a lovely reminder of how close we are as a Parish, and how even at a distance, we can come together, as one family.

Best wishes,
Chelsea Bottomley
